Marathon Course Info:
Starting on the edge of the of the Pasayten Wilderness in the Okanogan National Forest at an altitude of 3300ft the course loses 1000ft in the first 10 miles as it follows the wild Chewuch River to the "western" town of Winthrop. In all the race loses 1800ft and gains just 250 for a net loss of 1550ft. The first three miles are on packed dirt road(the surface is a little loose and gravelly but it should not slow runners down very much and all the downhill will more than make up the difference) and the remainder is on asphalt and the entire route even when approaching town has very little vehicle traffic. The first 18 miles are in the national forest, the next seven are on rural county roads and the final mile makes it way to downtown on town streets. The Course is USATF certified 26.2 miles and can be used as a "Boston Qualifier". MAPS ELEVATION PROFILE All miles will be marked and the half will be marked too.
Half Marathon Course Info:
The half marathon course starts at the 13.1 mile mark of the marathon course at about 2200ft and finishes at 1800ft in downtown Winthrop following the marathon course the whole way. The half marathon has about 250 ft of elevation gain and about 650ft of loss for net loss of 400ft. The course will probably be USATF certified but it hasn't been done yet. The miles will be marked for the marathon only so you'll have to do some math while you run. Maps Elevation Profile

All runners must take the provided buses to the start. NO GETTING DROPPED OFF AT START. The buses will depart from the Winthrop Barn(2 blocks from the finish line) 1/4 mile west of downtown Winthrop on Hwy 20 within walking distance from all the Winthrop motels. Parking is limited so please walk or carpool. Your warm clothes will be transported back to the finish line--please bring a bag labeled with your name and bib number to keep things tidy and so you don't lose your favorite jacket or whatever.

Spectators:
This is not a very spectator friendly race, there are only 3 spots on the marathon course(and only 2 on the half marathon course) where your friends or family could see you during the race (mi 8.5 and 19 for the marathon and mile 6 for the half marathon and at the finish for both) and they must follow these directions exactly. Winthrop and the Methow Valley are however full of things for your friends and family to do while you run. One great option for them is to volunteer at an aid station--they get see you on the course and get a free ticket for the pre and post race meals and you get to run for free!
Lodging:
The Chewuch Inn, The River Run Inn and Sun Mountain Lodge(Sun Mountain is offering runners $55 off their regular rates) are race sponsors and are good options. For other options check out the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce or Central Reservations
Weather:
Located on the sunny and dry side of the state there's a good chance the sky will be clear and blue. The average temperatures for the start are 35-40 degrees and by midday it'll likely be in the high 60's or low 70's-- perfect running weather! But this is the mountains so anything is possible...
